Back in November 2023, I published my memoir ‘You Don’t Look Like an Ultrarunner’. This book looks back on my birding and twitching adventures, birding trips in Europe and parts of western Asia as well as detailing how my bipolar symptoms has made my life challenging, but also influenced some of my life choices. The book follows me from obsessive twitcher to unlikely ultra distance runner all whilst navigating through life with a bipolar brain.

In the pages of this book I share a collection of colour pictures of rarities I have photographed in the UK and Ireland as well as collections from my overseas trips.
This is a positive story of resilience in spite of adversity and I am very proud to have written it. To find out more about ‘You Don’t Look Like an Ultrarunner’ and to learn where you can purchase a copy, please follow the link below:

This story is not yet reached its conclusion. Since I published the book, my bipolar symptoms spiraled in to a full blown manic episode. This led my to an overdose attempt and a ten week stay on the psychiatric ward of a local hospital. Because of this my diagnosis was changed from bipolar type 2 to bipolar type 1 as well as the addition of complex post traumatic stress disorder. At the time of writing my cocktail of psychiatric medication seems to be working well for me and I’ve just started back birding again. Suffice to say I have more experiences to share, though I’m not quite ready for a sequel yet.
