I apologise for the lack of posts during late summer, but I’ve been in hiding (from the sun)! Unfortunately some of the medications I have to take make it difficult for my body to regulate heat. So to avoid heat stroke and dehydration I had to spend much of the hot days in the shade at home.
It wasn’t all bad though, I did manage to get out a few times locally. A few highlights were some Little Gulls, Grey Plovers and Bar-tailed Godwits at Grune Point and a few Dunlin and Sanderling at Bowness-on-Solway.

In August I finally broke my dipping run, when I successfully twitched a stunning juvenile Red-necked Phalarope that was feeding on one of the larger pools on Wedholme Flow. Good scope views were had, but a bit too distant for my photography gear. It was a delight to see the phalarope, and only my second observation in Cumbria. The previous one being on Leece Tarn in September 2005 (pictured above).
