A day on the Solway…

This morning Shannon joined me for some birding along the inner Solway. We started at Campfield Marsh RSPB reserve. Along the hedgerows there were singing Blackcap, Garden Warbler, Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Common Whitethroat and Lesser Whitethroat. A pair of Linnet were nice to see, particularly as the male was very striking in his bright white (leucistic) plumage.

Avocet, Marsh Harrier and Osprey were an unexpected bonus on the reserve. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen any of these species, so exciting stuff.

The high tide provided us with hundreds of Eurasian Oystercatchers, some smart looking Bar-tailed Godwits and a Eurasian Whimbrel amongst a few Eurasian Curlew.

Another pleasant days birding with my eldest daughter. Shannon’s bird of the day was the Marsh Harrier.!
